AboutFrom 1989 to 1993, nearly everyone in the parish of St Mary Bourne was involved in building a new village hall. When the new St Mary Bourne Village Centre opened in April 1993, £300.000 had been raised (and spent without a penny owing) through a tremendous community effort and generous grants, and understandably people still feel proud of that achievement.
Today the Village Centre is a successfully managed village asset with healthy finances, run by a committee of trustees and volunteers within the framework of a new constitution devised by the Charity Commissioners. Trustee Vacancy St Mary Bourne Village Centre is a registered charitable trust set up for the benefit of the community. Trustees are responsible for controlling the management and administration of the Village Centre. The Management Committee consists of five Trustees and a number of co-opted members. Trustees are elected for a term of five years at the Annual General Meeting.
The Village Centre is looking for new members on the management committee which meets quarterly, and the trustees usually have a couple of additional meetings, so there is not a large time commitment. Joining the committee is a good opportunity to give something back to your community. The current members have been on the committee for many years and some of us feel it is time to hand on responsibility for this community asset. It really is vital now that the next generation step up and get involved so that we have new candidates to become trustees before any of us is next up for re-election in 2025. To express an interest and for further information please write to [email protected] or contact the Chairman, Mrs Karen Crofts on 01264 738 025. |
